Art Therapy
Art projects are a fun, relaxing way for people of all ages to express their creativity, but they’re particularly valuable for seniors with Alzheimer’s or dementia.
As we age, so do our brains. This can make it difficult to carry out some tasks- particularly when living with Dementia / Alzheimer’s. Art therapy for adults can help boost these cognitive functions, improving senior’s abilities to use logic and reasoning, problem solve, focus on tasks for a sustained period of time, and improve working memory.
Even though nothing will cure dementia, art therapy stimulates the brain in a multitude of ways. It can stir dormant memories and sometimes even encourages speech.
Art therapy can make a massive difference when it comes to both the mental and physical health of seniors. To learn more about why we love art therapy, get in touch today to save your seat. 1:1 and Group sessions available.
Music Therapy
Sensory music therapy is most appropriate for individuals diagnosed with dementia. During sensory music therapy sessions, direct touch, stimulation with instruments, pictures and props, and familiar songs are used to address reality orientation, quality of life, and brain stimulation using a multi-modal approach. We recommend keeping group sizes to 6-8 participants for this type of treatment.
Reminiscence Therapy
Reminiscence Therapy involves the discussion of past activities, events, and experiences 1:1 or with a group of people, usually with the aid of prompts such as photographs, household and other familiar items from the past, music, and archive sound recordings. Reminiscence groups typically involve group meetings in which participants are encouraged to talk about past events at least once a week.
Reminiscence therapy is one of the most popular psychosocial interventions in dementia care and is highly engaging for participants. There is some evidence to suggest it is effective in improving mood in older people without dementia.
Group Sessions
Fit Minds® has created engaging, research-backed content designed for seniors in a group setting. Our premier group sessions are not dementia group therapy; they are interactive classes designed for independent seniors, as well as those in assisted living or memory care communities. Each one-hour presentation includes exercises that target five
key areas of cognition, along with information on brain health and aging well.
One on One Sessions
Fun, engaging coaching sessions are delivered by a certified cognitive coach. Each session is customized to the client’s current level of cognition while being challenging without overwhelming. Every session focuses on 5 key areas of cognition and monthly assessment reports on the clients progress and engagement levels are provided to family and provide insightful feedback. In addition to mental stimulation, our goal is to provide meaningful engagement, restore lost confidence, and show we value each client as an individual with a unique personality. “Dementia changes relationships, it doesn’t end them!” Fit Minds®
