Let Us Help You Navigate Your Journey – From Diagnosis through End of Life
As the Connecticut experts in aging well, we can help you avoid common pitfalls. We know the medical system, and we know local programs and service options. We also understand the challenges of aging families! Give us a call at 860-201-4474 to find out more about how we can make the journey of aging easier.
Here are some ways we can help:
- Advocate for you with doctors.
The medical system is its own labyrinth. We know it well! Working with you to establish your goals of care, we can be sure that you and your interests are always at the center of the decision-making. - Provide peace of mind for everyone who is involved.
If you have children, they may be anxious about your safety. But in their desire to help, they can sometimes get a little overzealous. Alternatively, you may have a spouse you are worried about, but you aren’t sure how bad things are or aren’t. For that matter, you may have worries about your own situation. Having an objective, experienced professional in the picture eases everyone’s concerns. Following an initial assessment, we can provide you with a credible plan for addressing any problems you may have now, or any that may be on your near-term horizon. Everyone will rest easier! - Coordinate care.
There are many different types of support services available. As the local experts in aging well, we can guide you to the best providers for your situation. We can also help to manage multiple different providers to be sure they are in good communication and working together toward the same goals—yours! - Provide emotional support.
As Bette Davis so aptly observed, “Aging ain’t no place for sissies.” There are certainly losses that come with aging. But there are also strengths that emerge. And many creative ways to move through this stage of life with grace, good humor, and increased satisfaction. We can help you keep joy, meaning and quality of life at the forefront of your journey. - Ease the burden of common ailments.
Whether it’s memory problems, managing multiple diseases, or frequent hospitalizations, we’ve been there with our clients. Through thick and thin, we can support you to stay as healthy as possible. We can also offer many real-world non-medical suggestions that make the difference between a lousy day, or one where you actually get to do things you like to do. - Save you money.
We can help you find local services that are best suited to your needs and your pocketbook. You could be eligible for programs you are not aware of. Or there may be duplication in your current coverage that can be trimmed out to lower your expenses. - Make sure your wishes are followed.
Whether it’s medical decisions, or financial decisions, if something happens to you and you need a professional third party to act on your behalf, we put someone in place who will faithfully implement your plans. - Health Care Planning
It’s a gift for families to have their loved one’s wishes written down. Whether it’s a “do everything” approach or “let me go in peace.” Knowing what the patient wants ahead of time lifts a tremendous burden of guilt if they have to make difficult decisions
- Quality of Life
At its core, these discussions are about quality of life. What makes life worth living? Is there a situation that would be worse than death? Expressing your values and priorities can help in day-to-day care as well. The more people know about what gives you joy, the more they can help make each day matter.
As Aging Well Professionals, our top priority at CT Dementia Help, LLC is to help your loved one live as independently as possible while still being safe and secure. We can tailor a personalized solution uniquely designed to meet your family’s needs. Our familiarity with local resources saves you time, and often money. Our compassionate understanding of the aging process saves you distress.
Our experienced staff is quite accustomed to working with seniors who may be initially resistant to our services. With observant eyes and a gentle heart, we listen and make it clear that our goal is to help your loved one retain as much control and autonomy as possible.
Seniors quickly realize that we are their advocates. We are their ally, not a threat.
Adult daughters and sons realize that we can
- offer suggestions
- smooth transitions
- provide an objective viewpoint
- save time, money, and distress
Give us a call at 860-201-4474 or email us at kris@ctdementiahelp.com. We’d be honored to help your family navigate the waters of elder care.
An Aging Well Professional conducts an initial assessment
Over the course of 1-2 visits to your loved one’s home, we can conduct an assessment. We report back on the strengths and weaknesses of the current situation. Looking at family resources, we can recommend options based on your loved one’s preferences and budget. We can also give you a general sense of how things are likely to evolve over the next 6 months. This way you can make decisions within the context of a longer-term perspective.
An Aging Well Professional communicates with doctors
If you sometimes feel overwhelmed by the medical system, you are not alone! It can be daunting for anyone. Our experienced staff can serve as your medical advocates. We help you clarify your questions, and make sure you get answers. We lobby for the type of care your loved one wishes to receive. Because we understand the system, we can go to bat for you. This liberates your time and energy to provide the love and support that only a family member can give.
An Aging Well Professional arranges for in-home care
It may be that your loved one is no longer able to live safely alone. Having someone come by twice a week to cook a few meals and do some light housekeeping may be all that is needed. Or it could be that your loved one requires more constant attention. He or she may not need the services of a nurse. But the daily presence of a kind caregiver can assure he or she is eating regularly, taking baths, and taking medications as directed. You can choose part time or full-time assistance. We do the background checks and handle all the taxes and scheduling. You rest easily knowing your loved one is in good hands with caring and consistent help.
An Aging Well Professional checks in periodically
We can be your knowledgeable eyes and ears. Things can change quickly in the aging process. By checking in periodically, we can let you know whether your loved one is still able to live safely at home. As eldercare professionals, we know the problems that commonly arise, and the most cost-effective solutions. Perhaps there are some mobility issues that are making life more difficult than it needs to be. There may be a simple device that could remedy the situation. Maybe your loved one is starting to have memory problems and needs help with paying the bills or balancing the checkbook. Perhaps he or she needs a bit more oversight in terms of taking medications as directed. Through periodic check-ins, you receive peace of mind knowing the current situation remains the wisest choice.
An Aging Well Professional makes suggestions for alternative living arrangements
If your loved one needs more assistance than can safely or affordably be provided at home, we are happy to make suggestions based on his or her needs, and on family finances. We understand the broad range of services available in the elder care continuum and can recommend local facilities most likely to result in a good fit and positive transition.
If you think your loved one could use some extra help, give us a call at 860-459-9360. We’d be happy to talk about your situation and ways to meet your family’s unique requirements.
